The Cruising Club of America will host a US SAILING Sanctioned Safety at Sea Seminar on Wednesday, 16 June at the Seaman's Church Institute in Newport, Rhode Island. This seminar will support the 2010 Newport Bermuda Race which requires 30 % of each crew to have attended a Sanctioned Seminar within five years of the start of the race. Check-In for the eight hour long seminar will begin at 0730. The seminar will run from 0800 to 1630. Morning Coffee, Lunch and Break refreshments will be provided. NOTES:
- A minimum of 30% of each crew (including at least two of the following: captain, navigator, and port and starboard watch captains) must attend a US SAILING sanctioned Safety at Sea Seminar within five years prior to the start of the race. For Double-Handed Division yachts, both crewmembers shall meet this requirement. (If you can't remember when you last received a Safety At Sea Certificate, see the Safety At Sea Attendees Database.)
- ISAF Special Regulations require that two members of each crew must hold First Aid and CPR certificates. NOTE THAT THESE TWO MUST BE AMONG THE 30% WHO HOLD THE REQUIRED SAFETY AT SEA CERTIFICATE. BOTH DOUBLE-HANDED CREW MUST HOLD THE FIRST AID/CPR CERTIFICATE.
- Hands-on, in-the-water-training is recommended in 2010 and expected to be a requirement in 2012.
