Randall Baldwin's Taylor 42 Cabady from Ridgefield Connecticut, took first place in the Onion Patch Series following the final event, the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club Anniversary Regatta sailed yesterday. Cabady finished second in the New York Yacht Club Regatta, first in the Newport Bermuda Race and ninth in the RBYC Anniversary Regatta for 2, 1.25, 9 and a total of 12.25 points. The Series is scored under IRC ratings.

Cabady stuck close to Flying Jenny VI ,  a J122 sailed by David Askew and Ken Comerford from Annapolis, Maryland since the two were locked at 1-2 going into the final event. Flying Jenny VI only picked up one place on the day and ended second after scoring 3, 7.5, 8 for 18.5 points in the series. Charisma, the classic S&S 57 owned by Alejandro Perez-Calzanda from Barcelona, Spain, finished the series third with  2, 12.5,  11 for 26.5 series points.

Following Friday's race in Bermuda, Rich Long, Cabady's tactician said, "We have no idea how we did against Flying Jenny today. We are used to windward-leeward courses, but the Bermuda tour course took us from the Great Sound into unfamiliar waters. It was a navigator's course and a briefing for newcomers to sailing in Bermuda  would have helped."

When told about his series win, owner Randall Baldwin exclaimed, "Isn't that wonderful!"  When asked if he would return in 2010 to defend his title he quipped, "I don't know.  According to my wife, Cabady is for sale, now."

As overall individual in the Onion Patch Series, Cabady won the Henry B. duPont Memorial Trophy. As the Onion Patch Series yacht with the best corrected time in the Newport Bermuda Race, the Cabady crew also won the Catherine Hollis Memorial Trophy, together with the Malabar Trophy for first place in St. David's Lighthouse Division class 4.

In the team competition, the US Sailing Team grabbed first with 112.25 points. The US Sailing Team is comprised of George David of Hartford Connecticut and his Reichel Pugh 90 Rambler, David Askew and Ken Comerford of Annapolis in their J122 Flying Jenny VI and Hap Fauth's new Reichel Pugh 69 Bella Mente from Jamestown Rhode Island. Strong performances by all three team members in the Anniversary Regatta moved them into the lead.

Although leading the team competition after the Newport Bermuda Race, the Indian Harbor team finished second with 114.25  points. The team consisted Cygnette, William Mayer's Swan 441 from Greenwich Connecticut, Christopher Dragon owned by Andrew Weiss of Rye New York, and the 2006 series winner Crescendo, Martin Jacobson's Swan 44 Mk11 from the British Virgin Islands with a Wilmot family crew from Australia onboard.

The Onion Patch Series is an IRC scored series sailed biennially along with the Newport Bermuda Race and consists of the New York Yacht Club, the Bermuda Race and the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club  Anniversary  Regatta.
