Less than 96 hours after the opening of on-line registration, the skippers of almost 100 boats have begun the Application for Entry process for the 2008 Newport Bermuda Race. This rate of early entry applications rivals that of the record-breaking Centennial Race in 2006, when more than 260 boats sailed in the world’s classic ocean race.

A list of yachts applying for entry is posted on the Competitors & Boats page.

A large percentage of early applications are from boats that have not previously competed in the race. While race organizers require a significant level of sailing experience of participants, we also strongly encourage new entries who want to take up the challenge of racing to Bermuda.

Our Joint trophies with both the Marion-Bermuda Race and the Marblehead to Halifax Ocean Race have opened new opportunities for sailors wanting to expand their offshore racing experience. If you’ve been thinking about entering, sign up now.

Updates showing the names of boats and skippers that have begun the entry process will be posted daily on this website. All entry applications are subject to final review and approval by the Qualifications Committee, which carefully examines the credentials of crew and the suitability of the yacht for a Category 1 offshore race.
