I have been sailing and racing for over 40 years on a variety of different boats, from sailboards to square rigged ships. I have sailed about 20,000 miles racing, cruising and delivering boats.
Some of the boats I’ve been racing on lately are a C&C115, First Class 10, First 40, Dehler 36, and a 420. I also day sail and cruise on my C&C27 when not racing. I am perfectly comfortable from stem to stern. I’m experienced in all aspects of sailing and racing, from driving to trimming, foredeck to flying a spinnaker (symmetric or asym, furlers, snuffers, old school, in side or outside jibes). I do get a little excited talking spinnakers 🙂
I’m a mechanical engineer, which helps to finance my sailing addiction, but also helps when working on boat systems. I’ve taken a Yanmar diesel engine course, re-wired and re-plumbed boats, even designed some custom boat parts.
A lot of my sailing has been on the Ottawa river and Lake Ontario however I have also sailed in the Bahamas, US & Virgin Islands, US Eastern seaboard, and the East coast of Australia. I’ve raced in the LO300 (300 mile lap of Lake Ontario) a couple of times as well as many other long distance and round the buoys races. I’m looking to expand my racing horizons and the Newport Bermuda race would be a great next step.
