I have been sailing my whole life. I grew up sailing on Buzzards Bay and racing at my club, weekly team races and in Jr. Regattas around the area – SMSA mainly. I continued racing at the college level, NEISA intersectionals. Once I graduated I got involved in twilight racing in Boston Harbor. Then I moved to the UK, and started racing in the Solent.
This past summer I joined a Fastnet campaign on a Sigma 38. It was my first offshore racing experience and I loved it. I did the three qualifier races, totalling about 500nm, then the Fastnet itself, 607nm. My position was pit and spinnaker trim, but am happy to do anything. I can cook, be creative with limited ingredients, and do the cleaning. I am on the smaller side so I can fit just about anywhere and I can do anything that requires small hands and fingers.
On a personal note I grew up in MA and moved to London 5 years ago. I work for a Real Estate Fund, so most of my time is spent either working or sailing. I am not married and I have no kids, so I am completely flexible on timing. I get along with just about everyone and I know how important it is to be able to laugh in some of the situations that come up. “If you don’t have a sense of humour then offshore racing will give you one”, my skipper’s quote. And just to note I was the only woman on the boat for the entire campaign last summer with 8 men, so I can hold my own. I was actually better off than the guys most of the time.
I have always wanted to race Newport to Bermuda. Earlier in the season I was organizing a boat of my own but due to injuries it had to be abandoned. Now I am looking to join a boat with a competitive spirit, but also likes to laugh. So if you need an extra crew drop me a line and maybe I will be what you are after.
