How to Follow the Newport Bermuda Race

June 15, 2018

By Media Team

Fans of the Newport Bermuda Race can keep up with the action in several ways.

First, our Pantaenius Tracker system will show the courses and progress of the 170 boats in the fleet, thanks to their YellowBrick satellite transmitters. A number of these transmitters have been "Twitter-enabled" so if you see small Twitter logos on the tracker chart, click on them and you'll be able to read what was happening on that boat at that position on the course. Note that in addition to the tracker for laptop browsers, the YB Races app can be found on itunes for iOS devices or the Google Play store for Android devices. Be sure you have an updated version for this race as we've heard of a few instances of all versions not working properly.

Second, you can watch the classes start, take ongoing coverage, and watch first-to-finish coverage—all on Facebook Live with Nic Douglass. She'll be broadcasting through both the Newport Bermuda Race Facebook page and her own Adventures of a Sailor Girl Facebook page. If you choose "follow" at the Newport Bermuda page, for example, and have your smartphone notifications turned on, you'll receive alerts every time Nic begins reporting live.

Third, you can also follow along on Instagram (@bermudarace) or Twitter (@BDArace).

Finally, check here frequently in the News section; you'll also find an expanding number of photos and other media on the homepage and in the Media Gallery.

One event that already occurred was the Captains' Meeting, Thursday afternoon at 5pm at the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport's Washington Square. Two tickets were allotted to each boat for the meeting, which filled the old movie palace to capacity. For those who couldn't get a ticket, Nic broadcast the event via Facebook Live. If you're a Gulf Stream or meteorology nerd, skip ahead to 37:30 when Frank Bohlen is introduced.
