What’s New for 2026

  • 24/7 medical advisory support is provided by George Washington Maritime Medical Access (GWMMA) by US board-certified emergency medicine physicians with experience in the maritime industry.
  • Available to every yacht that starts the race through July 18, 2026
  • This service is included in the entry fee

In an Emergency

  • Any crew member may contact GWMMA
  • An emergency physician will be available 24/7 to provide consultation, assessment, and recommendations for treatment.
  • No special telehealth software required
  • GWMMA coordinates with FCO + authorities if evacuation is required

Join us April 13 at 6 PM for a live YouTube webinar with GWMMA to discuss the new protocols and provide practical insights on preparing for medical situations offshore.

Required Action Items

For PICs/RPICs and Medical Officers of Covered Yachts

Download and read the GWMMA Communication and Medical Protocols Manual.

It is the responsibility of the PIC and RPIC to share this with, and make available to, ALL crew members aboard the yacht during the coverage period (including return delivery crew if applicable).

Pre-complete or review Medical Intake Form for every crew

It is strongly suggested that basic medical information for every crew member (at a minimum the information covered by this form) be prepared in advance and be readily available to share with GWMMA.

Review the recommended Medications and Equipment List and prepare a medical kit appropriate for your vessel and crew

It is strongly recommended that a complete list of medications and equipment in YOUR kit is readily available to any crew member to share with GWMMA in the event of a medical emergency. Please download and fill in this form and print it to have onboard.

Post Emergency Contact Information in a readily accessible location to all crew members.

A final and current Emergency Contact Sheet (FCO, GWMMA, USCG, BER Rescue, etc.) will be provided to every PIC at check-in in Newport. A draft is available with the numbers as of May 2026, and this will be verified and distributed at Onsite Registration.

Optional Services from GWMMA

GWMMA offers additional optional services that may incur additional costs directly to the covered vessel and are provided only on a case-by-case basis. GWMMA will not proceed without prior discussion and written authorization from the vessel's Captain and/or crew.

Case Management Services

GWMMA can provide post-case consultation and case management for crew members receiving treatment once off the vessel. GWMMA will coordinate with local shoreside providers to monitor care, assess fitness for travel or duty, and arrange specialty consultations if needed.

Optional services described above are provided at the following rates:

  • Consultation/Case Management Services: $400.00 / Hour
  • Non-Clinical Consulting Services (Policy, Safety, COVID, etc.): $500.00 / Hour
  • COVID Testing: Quote per Episode

Repatriation Services

GWMMA provides comprehensive repatriation services for ill or injured crew members who require medical care during travel. Services include physician consultation, medical and logistical coordination, and clinical escorts ranging from EMTs to physicians for commercial flights. For those unable to fly commercially, MMA can help facilitate transport through a global network of air ambulance providers.
