Floatool is made of two kinds of Nylon – there is no metal. The handle grip is Nylon 6 and the center shank is glass filled Nylon 12. The receptacle tip of the tool accepts any 1/4” hex bit. The end cap unscrews to reveal a honeycomb structure that snugly fits three 1/4” hex bits. In addition, there is a molded loop on the outside that is perfect for a lanyard or carabiner. There is also a version of

Floatool that glows in the dark due to the Strontium aluminate additive. The interior construction is new and incredibly unique, although not readily apparent to the consumer.

Floatool has a patent for torque transfer through foam with this design. The cavity of the grip handle is filled with expanding foam that holds captive 6 splines – 3 from the outside shell and 3 from the interior shank. Torque is transferred from the grip handle to the hex bit receptacle at the end of the center shank through the high density foam (via the splines), which also enhances

Floatool’s buoyancy. The hex head tip has been bench tested and has a torque resistance of 41 lb/ft before the metal bit slips inside the glass filled Nylon receptacle.

This torque resistance is well beyond the average torque a human hand exerts while tightening a screw. For those requiring the ultimate torque resistance, we will offer the Floatool Pro which has a titanium tip insert and will not fail before the bit itself, or the hand! The grip handle has a diamond textured surface with three grip positions. The front is triangular for the most secure grip. The middle is cylindrical for a better rotational grip.
