Yesterday, we learned of and corrected a scoring error in the application of a 30-minute penalty to boats starting OCS. While several boats were over the starting line early in Newport, only one position change is noted, in Class 18: Desperado moves to first place and Alchemist, to second. Our apologies to the crews of the affected boats.

So a big congratulations is in order to @NEKA_Sailing ’s custom J/120 Desperado, captained by Leonid Vasiliev. This group of @WebbSailing Team college students sailed themselves into 2nd place in the Gibbs Hill Division behind @WarriorWonPac52 with a corrected time of 046:04:34.

Please give a big 👏 to Destiny! Thomas Stokes and crew were the final boat to cross the finish line last night. Whoever was responsible onboard for meals receives the “Cooks Award” tomorrow at prize giving.

The talk on the dock is that this race was a “sailmaker’s dream” as plenty of spinnakers were torn during the rare downwind Thrash to the Onion Patch.

Life onboard was not easy for the nearly 1,600 sailors who raced to Bermuda Race this year but this is why they do it!

John Browning is the current living record holder for the most Bermuda Races with 27. Second to Jim Mertz with 30 but he has “sailed his last Bermuda Race” as they say. He has never sailed it on his own boat and the boat he crewed in this year, JCurve, almost never made it to the starting line.
