The Newport Bermuda Race will provide racers with streamlined access to race related information while under way.    Satellite phones are required equipment for The Newport Bermuda Race and shall be “always on” for voice communication for the duration race.  The Bermuda Race Organizing Committee (BROC) encourages, the option of communicating with its Fleet Communications Office by email through competitors’ on-board satellite phones.  To simplify and streamline communications to and from the BROC, we recommend that vessels elect to install equipment for data and email connectivity through the required satellite phone.

Routine communications shall be made to the fleet through four redundant channels:

1. Daily weather information and pertinent race information will be supplied to the fleet in a voice recording that may be accessed by dialing +1 401- 849- 3129.
2. Daily weather and pertinent race information shall be made available through a text-only low bandwidth web page accessible through an internet connection at the following URL: (http://www.bermudaraceadmin.com/notices.txt).
3. Daily weather and pertinent race information shall be made available through a direct email to all vessels registering an “at sea” email address on the race entry form.

Options 2 and 3 will provide the simplest and most elegant means for accessing daily relevant information from the Fleet Communications Office.  The direct email will eliminate the need to check for messages as they will be sent directly to vessels electing to receive email at sea.
