The ‘Jewel of the Atlantic’, Bermuda is less than two hours away from most Eastern US airports.
Bermuda ranks as one of the more remote islands in the world. Certainly, it is one of the most beautiful places in the world; those from all walks of life have confirmed this point since the late 18th century when Bermuda began attracting visitors to its far-flung shores. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, the Island is on the same latitude as Cape Hatteras, NC, just 650 miles off the Eastern seaboard. Warmed by the waters of the Gulf Stream, Bermuda is a sub-tropical island with lush vegetation; the seasonal rainfall and a stable water table provide sufficient water to support a relatively dense growth accented by splashes of glorious colour. The highlight of the Bermuda yachting calendar is the biennial Newport Bermuda Race. With its beginnings in 1906, the ‘Thrash to the Onion Patch’ has since inspired other long-distance races and has over the years attracted thousands of boats crewed by some tens of thousands of men and women who have raced to this beautiful island.
We pack a lot of incredible experiences into a state that’s only 37 miles wide and 48 miles long. From all the stunning coastal scenery to all the chef-crafted cuisine, all the stately mansions to all the inspiring art, all the centuries of history to all the welcoming locals, a visit to the Ocean State is one you won’t soon forget. Because we’re all that.
The Official Rum Sponsor of the Newport Bermuda Race is not your typical corporate purveyor of distilled spirits. Founded in 1806, Goslings has been blending award-winning rums for 212 years including the distinctive Black Seal Rum. The family-owned company proudly describes it perseverance “For Seven Stubborn Generations” and with justification—the company is Bermuda’s largest exporter and oldest business house.
North Sails is proud to renew its support of the Newport Bermuda Race as the Official Performance Partner for the 2024 edition.
In its capacity as the Performance Partner, North Sails will organize race-prep webinars featuring North Sails Experts, race veterans, and special guests. These sessions will cover a range of topics, including sail choice, inventory optimization, and weather routing for the race. The webinar schedules will be made available online, and registration links will be sent in advance.
“The Newport Bermuda Race has challenged competitors for decades, and we’re thrilled to have North Sails continue its commitment to helping them meet it. With experienced race advice for new and veteran sailors alike, expert weather analysis, and of course, fast sails tough enough for this venerable race, North Sails helps improve this event for all involved,” said Andrew Kallfelz, Race Chairman.
Remarking on the prominence and staying power of this event, North Sails President Ken Read said, “We are always impressed with the energy and enthusiasm that surrounds this event, and delivering pre-race support for the skippers and their crews is the foundation of our Performance webinars. We’re looking forward to taking questions and exploring opportunities to help competitors optimize their race programs as efficiently and practically as possible.”
North Sails is a pioneering force in sailmaking, boasting an impressive legacy marked by groundbreaking innovations that have revolutionized sailing. Recognized as the preferred sailmaker for prestigious events like the America’s Cup and amongst Grand Prix, Ocean Racing, Olympics, and Superyachts, North Sails offers a comprehensive range of sails underpinned by an unwavering commitment to all sailors. North is the world’s leading sailmaker with a vast network of over 100 sales and service sites globally.
“The Newport Bermuda Race is a classic race on par with the likes of the Fastnet, Sydney-Hobart, and Transpac,” added Read. “The East Coast can serve up challenging weather conditions in mid-June. With a combination of 3Di and Helix Structured Luff, North allows for a reduced sail inventory that can carry you through a wider variety of conditions, a game-changer during distance racing. Our philosophy is simple—provide the fleet with high-performance reliability to make the race enjoyable for participants at all levels.”

A TRUE YACHTSMAN’S MOTOR YACHT PALM BEACH MOTOR YACHTS
Timeless Beauty with Industry-Leading Performance
This spirit of adventure and tradition is at the core of the Palm Beach Motor Yachts brand and exemplifies company founder and CEO Mark Richards. The Australian ocean racer holds a record nine line-honour victories for the prestigious 628 nautical mile Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, skippering the Super Maxi Wild Oats XI. He also has a notorious list of accolades spanning two and half decades skippering the Wild Oats team to multiple victories in his extensive Australian offshore ocean racing career. Other highlights include two America’s Cup campaigns and an Admiral’s Cup victory.
His passion for sailing, competition, and ocean racing fuels the company’s desire to support these events, the organizers, and sailors through select sponsorships and participation. Richards’ goal when he founded Palm Beach Motor Yachts in 1995 at Palm Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, was to build “A Yachtsman’s Power Boat.” Drawing from his experience as an elite ocean-racing champion and a qualified shipwright led him to design and develop the true yachtsman’s power boat which is known today as Palm Beach Motor Yachts.
This also led to the creation of the revolutionary V-Warp® Technology. The combination of proprietary hull design, construction technique, and the use of exotic materials have led Palm Beach Motor Yachts to global success. This industry leading technology delivers game changing fuel efficiency and performance and will be fully demonstrated during the Newport-Bermuda Race starting line off Ft. Adams on June 21st, as Mark and his team will embark on the 635 nautical-mile journey to Bermuda on board a stunning Palm Beach 70, shadowing the fleet to the finish line.

Water is essential for all life, but among sailors it’s also essential for living. The Sailing Museum is America’s home port, celebrating the mythic bond of those who go down to the sea for inner revival, athletic competition, or simple soul-nourishing pleasure.
Six themed experiences in seven iconic sailing classes allow veteran seafarers to revisit the steppingstones of their sport; encourage initiates with growing skills to explore new classes of watercraft; and, sweetest of all, give individuals yet to hoist a sail a taste of the exhilaration they will feel when they connect with wind and water. Every exhibit provides hands-on physical and mental entertainment, designed to hone leadership, develop teamwork, and teach the art of decision-making that breeds success.
The Museum is also the address of legends, a place to learn the inspiring stories of men and women elected to the National Sailing Hall of Fame whose championships and adventures shaped the sport. It also pays tribute to members of The America’s Cup Hall of Fame, those rare sailors with levels of expertise so outstanding that they distinguished themselves at the pinnacle of sailing.
Every important sport has its sacred ground, Cooperstown for baseball, Canton for football and Newport for sailing. While each honors the sport’s outstanding participants, one goes further. The Sailing Museum features displays that summarize the evolution of the sport, engage the sailing community at every level, catalyze participant proficiency, and illuminate the boundless gratification of a life under sail.
