Entry List Building, Fees Rise at End of the Week

The fleet is growing and getting prepped to race, far ahead of the June 19, 2020 starting time. To date, the entry list includes 153 boats that have submitted entries and begun completing the requirements to qualify each vessel and crew. If you’re planning to compete or are on the fence, we recommend these links—the Notice of Race and the Competitor’s Guide. If you’re just procrastinating, submit your entry with deposit by Friday, December 20 before entry fees rise.

Extra CCA Safety at Sea Course - Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020

The CCA's January 11 Safety at Sea course filled up. To help crews meet their training requirements, the CCA is offering an additional "International Offshore Safety at Sea with Hands-on Training" course on Sunday, January 12. This course meets the Newport Bermuda Race requirements. If you would like to take this Safety at Sea course on January 12, register here.

Note: all skippers, as well as at least 30 percent of racing crew, must have their World Sailing Approved Offshore Personal Survival Course Certificate available through courses held by the CCA and others. Learn more.

McMichael Yacht Yards and Brokers Joins Race as an Official Sponsor

McMichael Yacht Yards and Brokers has signed an agreement with the Bermuda Race Organizing Committee to be an Official Sponsor of the 2020 Newport Bermuda Race. The company, based in Mamaroneck, N.Y., Huntington, N.Y., and Newport, R.I., brings with it three generations of accumulated offshore and race-prep experience to support the fleet. Its relationship with the Bermuda Race goes back over 80 years to when the company began operations in 1935. Read full press release.

Gulf Stream Resources Stretch Back to 2002

Oceanographer, navigator and CCA member Frank Bohlen has studied ocean and near-shore currents his whole career. His detailed analyses have been a fixture for Newport Bermuda racers since 2002, and all of his tutorials are available for review in the website archive. If you’re a navigator, preparing for the 2020 race—or wish you were—don’t miss our Gulf Stream and Weather section.

Race Links to Two Online Platforms to Match Boats and Crews

In case you missed last summer’s announcement, the Newport Bermuda Race organizers have teamed up with a pair of online platforms to help sailors, skippers, and race boats connect.

In the past, on our Crew-Finder page, crews wanting to do the race posted their details, and skippers short of crew looked for good matches. For 2020, attempting to improve the service, we are working with RailMeets.com and Tendrr.co, which have begun to gain a foothold in the U.S. and European race markets, respectively. Skipper and crews sign up for sites individually, maintain their own profiles, and can modify or delete them at any time. Both of the services provide a free service to amateur competitors—crew and skippers.

Postings made through these sites are governed by their privacy policies. For special links to each site, visit Crew-Finder.
