For many years, the Bermuda Race Organizing Committee (BROC) has imposed monetary penalties for failure to satisfy eligibility, entry, measurement and registration requirements by set deadline dates. These monetary penalties have proven ineffective in the case of some deep-pocketed racers, and have led to an increasingly burdensome entry process and to the potential for unfair advantage […]

The Newport Bermuda Race is closely followed by an onshore team of race officials alternating four-hour watches as they monitor emails, satphone and radiotelephone calls, and the online tracker that identifies entries and their positions.  At a little after 2000 EDT on the 2012 race’s third night, June 17, watch-stander Nicholas Weare, based in Bermuda, […]

Nothing, of course, can be taken for granted offshore, but at least sailors can hope for an easy sail home from Bermuda. It used to be said that the comfortable passage was the delivery back to North America. “It’s all downwind, easy going, Bimini weather.”  Sometimes it happens, but the deliveries I’ve made recently have […]

HAMILTON BERMUDA, June 26, 2012- The Bermuda Race Organizing Committee learned from Bermuda Harbour Radio on Tuesday that two boats returning from the Newport Bermuda Race had faced emergency situations that are being managed by Bermuda Radio and the US Coast Guard. Here’s how a Bermuda Race veteran of long ago described his first steps when he staggered ashore after a Thrash to the Onion Patch: “We made tracks for the yacht club, and now, at last, with one foot on the rail of the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club bar, we might truly be said to have […]

TOMORROW May 11, 1900, EDT - “What Division is Right for Me in the Bermuda Race?” This is our Race-Prep Webinar #4. Sign Up in link in bio. (Webinar Series)⠀

In this one-hour webinar, past race chair A.J. Evans and technical committee chair Nick Nicholson will help you decide which “race within the Bermuda Race” is right for you, your boat, and your crew.⠀

Your type of boat and your crew make-up will sometimes make it obvious whether you will sail in the St. David’s, Gibbs Hill, Finisterre or other divisions, but often as Captain you can make equipment and crew choices to sail in a more or less intensely competitive mode, thereby moving into one division or another.⠀

Moderated by Race Vice-Chairman Mark Lenci, our experts will review several examples and respond to your questions.⠀

Registration is free, but you must REGISTER to receive the Zoom link for the event. As you register, you are also invited to submit questions in advance. (NOTE: If you've previously registered, there's no need to do so again.)⠀
