Safety at Sea Seminar in Newport, March 10-11, 2018

     The Cruising Club of America's pre-race Safety at Sea seminar will be held again in Newport, RI on Saturday and Sunday, March 10th & 11th.  Registration is now open.
This training is required for 30% of all racing crew members.  Please see the Safety Requirements on the Official Notice Board for more information. 

     The training is also excellent for cruisers and recommended for delivery crews returning boats from Bermuda!

The tentative list of speakers are:

  • John Rousmaniere, lessons learned from recent incidents.
  • Ralph Naranjo, changes in offshore regulations, Bermuda Race safety regulations,  new safety equipment, and heavy weather
  • Frank Bohlen, marine weather and sea state.
  • Christopher McNally, offshore communications.
  • Jeff Wisch, seasickness, dehydration, and hypothermia and their effects on seamanship.
  • Bruce Brown, MOB prevention and recovery, rescue at sea and the ethics of giving assistance.
  • Karen Prioleau, crew preparation and training.
  • Bill Biewenga and Bruce Brown, essentials of damage control and abandoning ship.
  • Capt. Mark Bologna, personal safety equipment and life rafts.

     Alternative seminars are offered throughout the country, and include the Storm Trysail’s seminar on 19 May 2018, and the US Naval Academy seminar 24-25 March 2018.
