Dear Fellow Race Captains and Sailors:

As of September 26, we have 124 entries for the 2022 Newport Bermuda Race, which is running ahead of the pace for entries in past races. It's too early to tell for sure, but we may be looking at a larger number of competitors than usual.

This email follows up on Competitor Bulletin #3 (Safety at Sea training requirements). The Cruising Club of America in partnership with the newly formed Bermuda Race Foundation and with the New York Yacht Club have opened registration for Safety at Sea courses. Initial indications are that there is a strong demand for these courses due to the 18-month pause in courses nationwide. We very strongly encourage you to quickly determine who needs to be trained on your crews and push them to register for a course as soon as possible.

Our team has prepared a step-by-step guide to assist captains in determining the number of crewmembers who are required to be trained and the proper course(s) for crewmembers. That is available for download here.

The Cruising Club of America (CCA) is offering two courses a month from December 2021 through May 2022 if registrations are sufficient. You can get information and register for the CCA courses here. In addition the Storm Trysail Club has a limited number of slots available in their October 11 course in New York. You can find all scheduled courses in the USA on the US Sailing website “find a course”.

All the best,

Mark Lenci, Vice Chairman
2022 Bermuda Race Organizing Committee
