Online Newport Bermuda Race

Race Overview


All are welcome to compete in the 2024 Online Newport Bermuda Race with Sailonline.org, starting on Friday, June 21st. This race will be a test of navigational and routing skills in a race simulation under the same conditions that the 2024 fleet will be sailing IRL (in real life).

Registration for the race is currently open at Sailonline, and the portal will open for pre-race practice on Thursday, June 13th, at 2300 UTC, or 1900 ET. Prizes will be awarded to the top three in each division, including a technical bag for first place, from sponsors BankNewport and Team One Newport, a canvas bag for second place, from sponsor Barton & Gray, and a race cap for third place from the Bermuda Race Organizing Committee. Additionally, all 12 winners will receive a poster of the race. Be sure to register below for recognition.

Registration is free into any of the four divisions, and depending on your choice, you'll compete in a one-design fleet against other sailors. Prizes will be awarded for top finishers in all divisions:

How it works


  1. To be eligible for prizes & receive race communications, you must register below and have a Sailonline.Org Username ready. If you don't already have an account with Sailonline.org, click here. We encourage you to register with your Boat Name (if there are more than one of crew members competing, add a first or last name to your username).
  2. Get familiar with the format by reading the Sailonline.Org Manual and watching the video below.
  3. Create an account at Sailonline.org (and if you have any difficulties, contact [email protected]). Sail a practice race!
  4. Enter the Race at Sailonline.org
  5. Start the race at Sailonline.org on June 21, 1300 EDT
  6. Follow along on our website and social media for stories from fellow competitors around the world.
  7. Finish the race.

The Dehler 46 is the flagship of the Dehler line, a Judel/ Vrolijk designed, three-cabin cruiser-racer well represents Newport Bermuda's largest division sailed largely by amateur crews.

The 50-foot Italia 14.98, available in Bluewater and Sport models, will race in the cruising-boat division named for 3-time winner Carleton Mitchell's famous yawl.

Double-Handed Division

Sun Fast 3300


The new Sun Fast 3300 by Jeanneau is 34'5" and is a purpose-built race boat for shorthanded sailing, designed by Guillaume Verdier and Daniel Andrieu.

Offshore Email Address Submission


While the race is underway, the race committee will release announcements and rhumbline forecast from Commanders Weather twice a day (usually around 0800 and 1800).

Messages are released by three formats:

  1. low-bandwidth web page: www.bermudaraceadmin.com/notices.txt (note the ‘admin’ in url)
  2. By voicemail by dialing (+1) 401- 849- 3129.
  3. By email to addresses entered in the SailGate system and any submitted using the form below.

Remember to add the email addresses [email protected] and [email protected] to your safe senders list, especially if you use Gmail which may filter the race committee’s emails as promotional. To unsubscribe, follow the instructions at the bottom of the email you receive.
